Mi’kmaq Treaty Day Celebrations at Halifax, N.S. September 30 – October 1, 2009

Wednesday, September 30, 2009:

12 noon to 4 pm: Craft demonstrations at the Lord Nelson Hotel

8 pm to 12 midnight: Mi’kmaq Cultural Showcase at the Lord Nelson Hotel

  • Master of Ceremonies: Lindsay Marshall
  • 8:15 pm: Boys from Mala, Eskasoni First Nation, N.S.
  • 8:45 pm: Moonie Francis, Eskasoni First Nation, N.S.
  • 9:15 pm: Lonecloud, Millbrook First Nation, N.S.
  • 10 pm to 12 midnight: The Relatives, Eskasoni First Nation, N.S.

Thursday, October 1, 2009:

10 am: Treaty Day Church Services at St. Mary’s Basilica

11 am: Veterans Parade of Honour from St. Mary’s Basilica to Grand Parade Square

11:30 am: Flag Raising Ceremonies at Grand Parade Square

12:15 pm to 1:30 pm: Mi’kmaq Gathering Feast at the World Trade and Convention Centre

1:30 pm: Observance of Treaty Day at the World Trade and Convention Centre

1:45 pm: Opening Ceremony

  • Emcee: Judith Sullivan-Corney, Deputy Minister for the Office of Aboriginal Affairs
  • Keptin John Joe Sark to perform the Four Directions

Opening Remarks:
